New Year New Expectations

January 15, 2018

Happy new year everyone! It’s been a while and I want to touch base and let you guys know what you can expect from us this year.

Expanding the #AkataTeam

Last month we announced that we have wrapped up production for Akata Documentary. With that, we are looking to hire an editor to help us edit this film. We have two important conditions:

1) Your skills have to be amazing and

2) We want the editor to be currently living on the continent of Africa.

Our goal is to have as many Diasporan hands touch this film as possible, hiring an African editor living on the continent, goes along with our mission. Interested candidates can send us their portfolio at email at AkataDocumentary@gmail.com

Public Speaking

Now that production is complete, Victoria is available to speak at your next event, conference or panel discussionShe has expertise in African American genealogy, how to create an independent film, and discuss Pan-African issues from a millennial perspective. For booking inquiries, please email us at AkataDocumentary@gmail.com

#AkataTeaSocial

Every year, the #AkataTeam hosts a community event centered around the documentary. In 2016, we hosted the #AkataCookout. In 2017, we hosted the #AkataSoirée. This year, in 2018, we are hosting the #AkataTeaSocial. If you follow us on our social media pages, you are familiar with Victoria’s #AkataTeaTuesday posts where she provides weekly updates on her film. This event is a play on her Akata Tea Tuesday content. At this event, we plan to feature a complete scene from the movie, with a Q&A afterwards. As usual we will have amazing food, music, raffles and giveaways. This time around we will have #AkataMerchandise for sale. This event will take place in fall of 2018, so stay tuned!  For more sponsorship opportunities and information, please email us at  AkataDocumentary@gmail.com.

GoFundMe Update

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated, purchased a raffle ticket and even shared our link! We have decided to extend our fundraising campaign to help with post-production costs such as editor fees, editing software, translator fees, hard drives, and travel expenses. If you feel led to give, please donate at www.gofundme.com/AkakaDocu.
